Edmund Barton PDF Print E-mail

Edmund Barton may have become one of Australia 's greatest ever cricket umpires until politics got in the way. Standing behind the bowler's arm or at square leg, he was always fair and impartial. That's how he was as a politician too. He could lead angry men, from opposite sides of an arguement to agree to one solution.

You could argue that federation would not have happened without him.You could argue he was one of the most influential people in Australian History.

He also ate too much and drank too much!

This is my summary of... EDMUND BARTON!
Edmund was born in 1849 and was nicknamed Toby by his family of 11 children and mother and father. He enjoyed sports and was often the umpire for cricket games which were played. He was a rather thin person, but because he loved drinking and eating so much, he soon became quite a round person. In 1871 he became a barrister in NSW, and in 1879 he became a member of the "Lower House." Soon, in 1887 (so was it really that soon?) he became a member of the upper house. There were many differences between two types of politicians, the protectionists and the free traders, and Toby became a protectionist. In 1892 he became the premier in NSW, and from 1901 to 1903 he was the prime minister, mind you the 1st prime minister, of Australia.

To Allan Drummond,
I have read your book called "Edmund Barton".
He has a very intresting life and i really enjoy reading it.The illustration is very good and nice, I really like it. I just want to ask how long did it took you to write this book? Did you enjoy reading the book your self?
Well that is all from me now...

The book was very interesting, and the story of Tosspot's life was quite a puzzeling one.
I enjoyed it greatly .

Ben

Edmund Barton was sometimes called Tosspot Toby and he went to Sydney Grammar for high school. Edumund Barton could of been one of  Australia's greatest cricket umpires until politics got in the way. He was skinny and then he was fat because he ate and drank too much. One of Edmund's favourite games was jigsaw puzzles. Edmund's mum had eleven kids and thats a lot.
