Florence Nightingale didn't want to be tied down. She didn't see why she had to follow the usual path of marrying and looking after a husband for the rest of her life. She wanted to do things her way and she wanted other people to do things her way too. The cause of women was given a big kick along, not just because she opened up a nursing career for them, but because she was able to change the views of the powerful people of the land in a number of ways. She could be a bit stern and scary sometimes though.
One night in Constantinople , Florence met Mary Seacole, a coloured lady from Jamaica . She was much more fun. |
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and learnt more about Florence Nightingale. I thought the writing was easy and clear and I could understand the language. I would have enjoyed the book more if it had been about one person but I still recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical information.
