Thanks to Fred Hollows well over a million people in this world, who would otherwise have been blind, can see. The world is a better place for his having lived in it. He gave sight to the blind in far away to places such as Nepal, Eritrea and Vietnam but it was his unselfish commitment to health and eye care among Australian Aborigines that first made us all sit up and take notice.
He worked amongst them, with them and for them in urban Redfern and throughout the red dirt country of Australia. At the end of his life, he was buried at Bourke, in that same red dirt that he had grown to love as a symbol of Australia and its indigenous people.
Fred Hollows has become a part of the Australian Dreaming. His spirit still exists in the Fred Hollows Foundation which continues to do his work in Australia and in many other countries of the world. |

The book you wrote about Fred Hollows inspiried me to be the best I can and not to take negative comments too personally. Fred Hollows was a very kind and unselfish man. He helped many people for most of his life and never complained. In the book I didn't read one thing that Fred Hollows did for himself it was always; for others, I need to help them, they are suffering and so on how unselfish and this is what I like about him: his attitude. He inspiries me to do my best , to show compassion and stand up for waht you believe in. Thank you for writing such a powerful book. It really touched me!Bye PS: You're a really good author. Keep up the good work.

I think that Fred Hollows is an informative book without being boring. It doesn't take too long to read but still tells you everything you need to know about Fred Hollows. I think that one sentence in the book summed him up perfectly, "if there was something broken, he wanted to fix it straight away." It is a book about a working-class man who became an eye speciallist to help the aboriginals who had various health problems at the time. I would give this book 9/10 because it is a great book. It is suitable for people aged 10 to 108.

I just wanted to thank you for the chance to read and review one of your books, Fred Hollows, because I enjoyed it and thought it was great. I think that the book was really good. It was easy to read and very interesting.
I learned a lot about Sandy Blight/Trachoma and the trouble it caused throughout Australia and many other countries. I also learned about Fred Hollows and the wonderful things he did to help people with eye diseases and to try to give the Aboriginal people of Australia a fair medical service.
I enjoyed the book very much; some of the pictures along with some of the comments were very funny. At first I found the book a little bit difficult but as I read more I really got into it. I would recommend it to my friends for a good read or even for projects and information. You have done a great job Allan Drummond and I look forward to reading more of your books.

I thought that this book was great. I really enjoyed it. I like the way that Fred Hollows was really caring and that he always wanted to help people with their eye sight. I thought that Fred making an organisation for Aboriginal people was really nice and how he got other doctors to help him. The book was really good to read. I really liked it. I like how Fred Holloows always did his best and wasn't happy if it wasn't good. The book was a really good read. It made me want to keep reading this biography on Fred Hollows because this book was interesting. I think that other people will like what he did and how he helped.
